Admissions Overview

Admissions Overview

Dear Prospective Parents,

As a veteran Heritage parent, I know that it is the common educational and philosophical goals that are shared between school and home that leads to the best gains in a child's education.   It is important that as a prospective parent you have a full understanding of who we are, what we believe, and what we do at Heritage. Our admissions process is designed to do just that.  We want to equip you to make the best possible decision regarding your child's education.

Since each student comes to school as a whole person, our process is designed to give us insight into his/her intellectual, social, emotional, and physical dimensions. The primary questions we ask about our younger students are: Is this student ready for school? For which grade is this student ready? About our older students we ask: Can Heritage serve this student well? Will this student be successful here?  We are also interested in insuring that both parents understand and fully support the philosophy and commitments of being a Heritage Parent. This is the purpose of the parent interview, which takes place after the initial prospective student evaluation.

In order to make wise admissions decisions, we attempt to balance the needs of the student, the needs of the entire school and class, and the concerns which you have as a parent.  To assist us in these decisions we look to parental insights and desires, teacher references, our own observations, age-appropriate assessments, and student feedback. Our youngest students are given developmental and behavioral assessments; for older students, we measure aptitude and achievement. Our Admissions Committee makes recommendations to our Head of School as to each applicant.
