Mission & Distinctives

About > Mission & Distinctives

Purpose

To provide an academically rigorous educational experience designed to help students know, love, and practice that which is true, good, and excellent and to prepare them to live purposefully and intelligently in the service of God and man.

Vision

To be a school known for graduates who positively shape culture through their faith and intellect.

Mission

Think with excellence, believe with confidence, live with character.

Think with Excellence

Thinking with excellence represents our vision for every student to develop a passion for knowledge and inquisitive thinking, and as a result gain the ability to see the true, good, and beautiful and apply that learning to daily life and future academic pursuits.

Small Classes

Heritage’s class sizes are intentionally small with a student to teacher ratio of 12:1 in lower school and 15:1 in the middle and high school. This enables individual attention and abundant opportunities for each student to participate and lead.

Well-Trained Teachers

Our teachers are professional educators who are involved in ongoing training and share a personal passion for learning and discovery. In addition to being subject matter experts, our teachers love children and have a desire to partner with parents to shepherd hearts. 59% of our lower and middle school teachers and 100% of our high school teachers hold a master’s degree.

A Culture that Celebrates Thinking

Education moves from facts training to engaging students in conversations around living ideas. Heritage seeks to develop young scholars who are responsible, self-motivated, and intellectually curious.

Classical Pedagogy

Heritage uses proven pedagogy that leverages the best content from Western civilization, that has endured the test of time, and that follows the natural learning abilities of the child.

A Charlotte Mason Influence

Her methodology defines and informs Heritage’s emphasis on “the one who does the thinking does the learning.” Integrating Ms. Mason’s influence, especially in Enrichment through Class 3, Heritage aims to instill personal virtues such as excellent manners and habits along with an interest in nature and picture studies.

Believe with Confidence

Heritage has a vision for every student to know Jesus Christ through a confident knowledge of Scripture and to be prepared to boldly live out his or her faith compassionately in the modern world.

Christ-Centered

Heritage focuses on the integration of faith and life. Heritage acknowledges Jesus Christ as Lord over all of life and the Bible as the final authority in matters of life and thought.

Statement of Faith

Heritage faculty, staff, and families share a common Christian, orthodox faith that allows for consistency between home and school.

Worldview Development

All academic subjects are taught as parts of an integrated whole with Scripture at the center. Students are encouraged to become “thinking Christians” and to develop a solid biblical worldview. Each week, students gather for Chapel. Classroom discussions provide opportunities for students to discuss their faith across all academic disciplines.

Mentoring & Advisors

Classroom teachers focus on each student, paying particular attention not just to their academic progress but also to their social and spiritual needs. As students move to Middle School, they have an opportunity to mentor younger students while also being mentored and discipled by our faculty.

Family Bible Readings

Parents are encouraged to follow a particular Bible reading program at home. Teachers include this material in classroom discussions the next day, again integrating home and school.

Preserving Innocence

Most children, in American society, grow up too fast. At Heritage, their innocence is protected during Lower School. In Middle and High School students begin to address culturally relevant issues so that they are prepared to engage the culture and defend their faith.

Live with Character

Heritage expects students to learn to respect authority and to develop a desire to serve others with words and actions driven by a heart of gratitude.

Manners & Respect

Grounded in an awareness of God’s grace in their lives, students are encouraged to respect authority and to put others ahead of themselves.

Mentors & Models

Students are informed of the existence of evil and error in the world and are challenged to live virtuously and nobly through the example of historical heroes of the faith as well as inspirational contemporary leaders.

Servant Leadership

In an effort to provide valuable experiences as they mature, older students are given specific opportunities to serve as leaders of younger students. This foundation in leadership aims to guide students as adults whether they choose to serve in a corporate boardroom or in a rural mission field.

Athletics

Heritage offers an athletic program that involves students in a variety of activities and sports designed to develop physical fitness, athletic skills, and sportsmanship.

Hands-On Service Opportunities

Through local, national, and international opportunities, students are encouraged to put their faith into practice by tangibly serving and making a difference in their community and world.

The education of your child is one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent. Thank you for your interest in Heritage. We look forward to meeting you.
